Evelyn E. Price, 102, formerly of Mill Street, Pittston and recently of Carbondale, Pa passed away on November 4, 2016. Evelyn, an educator, received her degree in 1934 at the West Chester State Teacher's College in West Chester, Pa
The eldest child of Frank and Helen Mahon Price, she spent more than 40 years in service to first graders in Lansdale, Pa while still taking care of her sister, Hilda, who had physical challenges. Evelyn, a parishioner of Saint John the Evangelist in Pittston, was a devout Catholic who could be spotted on her knees in a dimly lit living room at two in the morning saying prayers. Evelyn did like to stay up late watching Johnny Carson and other programs. Her other joys included taking care of her house, cooking Sunday dinners and cheering on the Notre Dame football team.
Miss Price was preceded in death by her sister, Hilda, and brothers, Frank and Thomas and beloved nephew Thomas P. Price.
She is survived by her three loving nieces, Jane Osman of Florence, New Jersey, Maryann Price of Carrboro, North Carolina and Rosemary Mantegani of Hampton Beach, New Hampshire. She is also survived by a grand nephew, Jim Osman of Washington, D.C., grandniece Janine Flint of Washington Township, New Jersey, sister-in-law, Mary Grayce Price, also of Carrboro, North Carolina and special friends and neighbors Norman and Holly Frederick and their children.
The funeral will be held on Friday, November 11th at 9:30 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston. Interment will be in the parish cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. John the Evangelist Church in Pittston.
Evelyn and Hilda lived across the street from me on Mill street. I have very fond memories of both of them. As a child, I remember Hilda who was in a wheelchair had a special car made so she could drive. My family often asks about them. I'm very sorry for your loss.
